Two Nasa astronauts are due to head for the International Space Station aboard a new spacecraft. Boeing’s Starliner will blast off from Cape Canaveral in Florida, in its first crewed test flight. The mission has been delayed for several years because of setbacks in the spacecraft's development. If it is successful, it will become the second private firm able to provide crew transport to and from the ISS, alongside Elon Musk's SpaceX. Hamas has said that it will agree to a ceasefire deal in Gaza, understood to be based on the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. However Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the proposed ceasefire “does not meet Israel’s demands” and attacks on the city of Rafah will continue. Israel has ordered one hundred thousand Palestinians to leave the area and bombing of the city has continued. Mr Netanyahu has agreed to send a delegation to discuss the Hamas ceasefire proposal in more detail. Talks leading to the offer from Hamas have been led by Egypt, with involvement from Qatar. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the deal that Hamas accepted is "far from meeting Israel's demands", and Israel will send a working delegation to negotiate further. Hamas said earlier it had approved a ceasefire deal for Gaza put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators. The war began when Hamas fighters stormed into southern Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and seizing 252 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. More than 34,700 people have been killed in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says. Ukraine is outgunned and outmanned by the Russian invaders, who are inching closer. Incoming American ammunition is expected to help, but how the Ukrainian government is addressing its need to recruit is controversial. War-weary troops have told the BBC the military needs to "rethink" how it recruits. A new mobilisation bill passed earlier in April was criticised for not including a limit on time served. A clause aimed at demobilising soldiers after three years was dropped at the army's request. Despite Kyiv lowering the conscription age to find replacements, it's not just a numbers game. The Israeli military says it is "encouraging" people in the southern Gaza city of Rafah to move towards an expanded humanitarian zone. It comes ahead of an expected offensive on the city, where more than 1.4 million people are sheltering. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) says it is a "limited scope" operation and not a wide-scale evacuation of eastern Rafah which will affect 100,000 people. It adds that evacuees will be directed to tent cities in nearby Khan Younis and al-Mawasi, where aid would be available. Scientists have recreated the face of a 75,000-year-old Neanderthal woman - one of our closest evolutionary cousins. The 3D model is based on the flattened, shattered remains of a skull whose bones were so soft when excavated they had the consistency of "a well-dunked biscuit". The skull was found in Shanidar Cave in Iraqi Kurdistan, where the remains of 10 Neanderthal men, women and children were previously unearthed.
