Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari has told a media briefing that Israel is examining the ceasefire proposal which Hamas says it's accepted. Hamas says it has approved a ceasefire deal for Gaza put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators but it is not yet known exactly what the group has agreed to. The announcement comes as Israel has urged 100,000 Palestinians to leave eastern Rafah ahead of a "limited" military operation. The war began when Hamas fighters stormed into southern Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and seizing 252 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. More than 34,700 people have been killed in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says. Ukraine is outgunned and outmanned by the Russian invaders, who are inching closer. Incoming American ammunition is expected to help, but how the Ukrainian government is addressing its need to recruit is controversial. War-weary troops have told the BBC the military needs to "rethink" how it recruits. A new mobilisation bill passed earlier in April was criticised for not including a limit on time served. A clause aimed at demobilising soldiers after three years was dropped at the army's request. Despite Kyiv lowering the conscription age to find replacements, it's not just a numbers game. The Israeli military says it is "encouraging" people in the southern Gaza city of Rafah to move towards an expanded humanitarian zone. It comes ahead of an expected offensive on the city, where more than 1.4 million people are sheltering. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) says it is a "limited scope" operation and not a wide-scale evacuation of eastern Rafah which will affect 100,000 people. It adds that evacuees will be directed to tent cities in nearby Khan Younis and al-Mawasi, where aid would be available. Scientists have recreated the face of a 75,000-year-old Neanderthal woman - one of our closest evolutionary cousins. The 3D model is based on the flattened, shattered remains of a skull whose bones were so soft when excavated they had the consistency of "a well-dunked biscuit". The skull was found in Shanidar Cave in Iraqi Kurdistan, where the remains of 10 Neanderthal men, women and children were previously unearthed. The UK government has been defeated in court - for a second time - for not doing enough to meet its targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Environmental campaigners argued that the energy minister signed off the government's climate plan without evidence it could be achieved. The High Court ruled on Friday that the government will now be required to redraft the plan again. In response the government defended its record on climate action.
