The University of the Western Cape says it's investigating a glitch that’s delayed payment of students on its work-study programme. More than 1,200 tutors, assistant lecturers and student assistants have not received their salaries since March. Some claim they haven’t been paid at all this academic year. The suspended Tembisa Hospital CEO Ashley Mthunzi has died. His death was confirmed by his wife on Tuesday. She said he died after a short illness. Mthunzi was placed under suspension in August 2022 after whistle-blower Babita Deokaran claimed there were irregularities in procurement at the hospital and the payment to suppliers. Deokaran was killed on 23 August 2021. Anti-corruption activist Ali Gule discussed this with eNCA. A witness who may not be named or identified has testified in the case against Mark Lifman, Jerome Booysen and 12 others. The alleged underworld bosses and members of the 27 gang are appearing in the Western Cape High Court. They have been charged with gang-related crimes committed across the City of Cape Town, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, intimidation and money laundering. An investigator in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has again singled out Meyiwa's then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo as the mastermind behind his killing. This through recent confessions by two of the accused and calls she made to accused 3, Mthobisi Mncube but Mncube's lawyer says the state has no evidence linking his client to the case and calls between him and Khumalo prove nothing.
