Mercedes wins dramatic race

Pre-race favourite 'Mercedes' won the first leg of the Barbados Triple Crown Saturday evening at the Garrison Savannah. Ridden by Ricky Walcott, Mercedes passed the pole first in the 74th Barbados Guineas, which went 15-hundred and 70 metres, in one minute, 37.60 Seconds. Just before the horses headed into the final straight away, there was a spill which involved three other horses - Heroes Day, Deliliah, and Ash Ridge. Reports are that two of the horses had to be put down, while jockey Anderson Trotman, who rode Ash Ridge, suffered a broken leg and a mild concussion.
