The Ministry of Education has completed its 2025–2026 nationwide distribution of laptops to Form 1 students and teachers, delivering 18,000 devices.

The Ministry said the laptops had been procured for distribution across 154 Secondary institutions, including 125 Government and Government-Assisted schools in Trinidad, nine schools in Tobago, 10 private institutions, and 10 Junior Life Centres.

It reminded that a total of 17,487 students were placed into Secondary Schools, with 17,188 laptops being distributed based on confirmed enrolment data submitted by the receiving Secondary Schools.

Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath said the initiative strengthens digital inclusion and prepares students for a technology-driven future, calling access to devices “a necessity” in modern education.

Speaking on Trinidad and Tobago Today, he confirmed the news, noting that laptops are essential for the future of learning.

« I want to say that yesterday, all Form 1 students in Trinidad and Tobago received their laptops. And so at the Secondary school, in moving from primary to secondary, the laptops are being used as a tool to enhance teaching and learning. »

He also noted that this is part of an effort to ensure future graduates have more employability skills.

« As we spiral up from Primary to Secondary, using technology to ensure that students interact much more quickly with the subject areas and the content so that they can go on to critical thinking and problem-solving skills because when we talk to employers, they are asking for graduates to have more critical thinking and problem-solving skills. »

Launched by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on November 27th, 2025, at Penal Secondary School, the Ministry confirmed that the programme concluded less than three months later, on February 11th, 2026.
