Ninety-five Special Reserve Police officers are now officially trained to take up duty in schools across the country.
The officers graduated on Friday at the Police Academy in St. James, after completing the first-ever School-Oriented Policing Course.
Delivering the feature address, Deputy Commissioner of Police Natasha George described them as pioneers, entrusted with protecting what she called the nation’s most valuable resource, its children.
She said the initiative represents a decisive step to curb school violence and antisocial behaviour that have long disrupted the education sector.
The course covered child development, justice procedures, dispute resolution, and the role of police in schools.
The officers will be assigned to 50 high-risk schools nationwide, supported by 25 community policing officers, with the goal of restoring schools as safe, disciplined, and supportive spaces for growth.
