AGRICULTURE MINISTRY COMPLETES DEPOPULATION OF INFECTED PIGS
The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries has completed the depopulation of all pigs at a farm affected by the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) outbreak. The exercise was carried out under strict biosecurity protocols to contain the virus and protect the local pork industry.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Lisa Musai confirmed the farm has been entirely depopulated and assured the public that local pork is safe for consumption. Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Honourable Ravi Ratiram, thanked all agencies and the affected farmers for their cooperation.
Decontamination is underway at the North Trinidad farm. Farmers are urged to report any signs of illness by calling the PRRS Hotline at 280-7945.
