Dancers gracefully swayed on the Queen’s Hall stage on Tuesday as the Ailey II Amalgamation tour made Trinidad and Tobago one of their stops.

The showcase, presented in collaboration with Plié for the Arts and the National Dance Association, set the stage for sustainable, regional partnerships while highlighting dance as a powerful and celebrated art form.

Miss Universe 1998 and Patron of the event, Wendy Fitzwilliam, called the Ailey II Amalgamation tour a perfect exchange and exposure of talent.

« Once she explained that Plié for the Arts is a foundation that elevates young dancers in Jamaica, and her vision is to do so across the Caribbean, exposing them to major international dance companies and, in turn, sharing regional talent with those companies. “It is the perfect exchange, a perfect marriage.”

Founder and Artistic Director of Plié for the Arts, Marisa Benain, said this collaboration with the National Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago presents ways to sustain regional partnerships.

« I believe in this creative mission, and more can be done to sustain regional partnership. We may not be able to find that togetherness politically or economically, but surely we can creatively. Through the creative industries, though it’s not a magic bullet, but surely it is our magic, and that cannot be replicated. »

President of the National Dance Association, Alette Liz Williams, through this collaboration, anticipates a growing regard for the art form.

« The National Dance Association welcomes all genres of dance because we are the governing body, and we would like you to support us. We could like us to start, according to Wendy, centring dance as a rooted cultural art form that could make us express, exchange, and elevate the culture in Trinidad and Tobago. »

Plié for the Arts is set to return to the Trinidad and Tobago stage to advance relations with the Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago.
