Attorney General John Jeremie says the boat strikes carried out by the United States military on suspected drug smugglers are consistent with international law.
As at December 31st, 2025, at least 115 people have been killed in 35 strikes on 36 vessels, including 11 vessels struck in the Caribbean Sea, 23 in the Eastern Pacific, and two in an unspecified location.
Speaking at a UNC Presss Briefing on Wednesday, AG Jeremie said he sought and received independent expert advice on this matter.
« My first look at it, and I took advice, I have taken advice, is that the strikes were consistent with international law. I took external advice outside of the Office of the Attorney General, and that was the advice which was given to me by an international expert. »
The Attorney General also shared that no Trinidad and Tobago citizens were killed in the process, as far as he has been officially informed.
« Apart from that, I have no comment, save and except to say that even now, I do not know that any Trinidad and Tobago citizen was killed in any strike. »
