Cabinet Approves New Import Rules For Foreign-Used Vehicles

The anticipated increase in age for foreign-used vehicles has been approved by the Cabinet.

This was announced by Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Senator Satyakama Maharaj, at the Post Cabinet Media Briefing.

« The Cabinet has approved the increase in the permissible age of importation of foreign-use, right-hand drive private cars, sports utilities, SUVs, sedans, and station wagons, powered by gasoline, diesel or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) from three years to under eight years. »

Cabinet also approved the annual quota assigned to registered dealers of foreign-used cars who have been actively using their quota.

Minister Maharaj also announced that the permissible age of importation of light commercial vehicles, pickup and panel vans inclusive of diesel engines has been approved for increase from seven years and under to 10 years and under from the date of manufacture.
