CARPHA And Small Arms Survey Sign Three-Year Agreement To Tackle Firearm Violence
3 hours ago
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Small Arms Survey have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen health and security frameworks across the region.
The agreement aims to reduce the risks posed by illicit small arms and light weapons while addressing the growing public health impact of firearm-related violence.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, CARPHA Executive Director Dr. Lisa Indar highlighted the urgency of the initiative, noting that violence and firearm-related injuries present a growing public health challenge for the Caribbean.
Representing the Small Arms Survey, Dr. Nicolas Florquin, Head of Data and Analytics, described the partnership as a strategic step forward. He said the organisation is proud to deepen its relationship with CARPHA, building on a fruitful collaboration that began in 2023.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will collaborate on integrating firearm-related injury and mortality data into health surveillance systems, conduct joint studies on the health burden of gun violence, and deliver training for ministries on applying a public health lens to firearm policy.
