Chaguanas Chamber Reports Slow Sales Over 2025 Christmas Period

The Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce has seen a decline in sales over the 2025 Christmas period.
In an interview with TTT News, Chamber President Baldath Maharaj said that while sales peaked on Christmas Eve, the business community experienced slow sales throughout the season.
« Well, it has been relatively slow in terms of the customer traffic. There has been a lot of vehicular traffic, and I must say it was managed properly to come in and out of Chaguanas, but when you go to the stores and you talk to the actual merchants, what we found is that sales have been a lot slower than it was last year. »
He, however, commended the work being done by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to combat crime within the Central district.
He explained that there has been a significant decrease in crime, with measures already in place to ensure a safe Carnival season in the coming weeks.
« Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen has been very engaging with us, and we’ve met with both the mayor and him. They have been doing an excellent job over the festive season. In fact, they launched what they referred to as Operation Festive Shield, that will take us straight into Carnival, and I have been asking him to let us continue that operation, Festive Shield, because what we notice is there has been a reduction in crime. We continue to see a reduction in crime over the last two or three years in the Central Division, not nationally. »
