Nathisha Charles-Pantin has outlined a comprehensive plan to boost Tobago’s agriculture and fisheries sectors, pledging to continue the « mega farming program » at Friendship while upgrading key processing facilities. Speaking at a Tobago People’s Party (TPP) political meeting ahead of Monday’s election, Charles-Pantin detailed the strategic zoning required for the Friendship estate.

She explained that due to the proximity to the airport, the area is strictly zoned to exclude animal husbandry, as livestock attracts birds which pose a risk to aviation safety. Instead, the specific focus at Friendship will remain on the cultivation of « leafy vegetables » and the utilization of shade houses to ensure adherence to airport safety standards and procedures.

In addition to crop production, Charles-Pantin committed to continuing the agricultural access roads program to ensure farmers can reach their lands. She also provided updates on critical infrastructure for the fishing industry, announcing that the administration is currently building the Palatuvier fish facility and reconstructing the Palatuvier jetty. Furthermore, she promised that the Delaford fishing facility is slated for repairs.

Highlighting the push for value-added production, Charles-Pantin revealed that the upgrades to the Louis D’Or processing facility are nearing completion. She noted that the site is undergoing « massive refurbishment » to accommodate both dry and wet processing, assuring the public that access to these modern facilities will be available very soon.
