CHARLOTTEVILLE POLICE TOWN HALL MEETING
The Executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Tobago Division, recently hosted a Police Town Meeting at the Charlotteville Public Library.
The session drew strong attendance from both residents and law enforcement representatives. During the meeting, the Division presented a comparative analysis of crime statistics for the district. Serious crimes declined from 20 cases during the same period last year to 14 this year, while minor offences fell sharply from 90 to 26. This was described as a significant step forward, with residents being commended for their cooperation in helping to reduce crime levels. The community was encouraged to continue partnering with the police to work toward even lower figures by the end of the year. The Division also highlighted plans to strengthen the workforce at the Charlotteville Police Station. At the same time, discussions are ongoing with the Tobago House of Assembly to enhance sea patrols and police presence at ports of entry, areas seen as vital for both safety and tourism. Residents were thanked for their continued trust and collaboration with law enforcement, and the local police team was recognised for its dedicated service. Community representatives used the forum to raise several concerns, including the need for more officers stationed in the district, repeated acts of vandalism at the jetty lights that impact cruise ship arrivals, and questions about night-time safety at sea. Concerns were also expressed about confidentiality when sharing information with the police. The meeting closed with a pledge from the Division to address the issues raised within its authority, and residents were invited to continue dialogue, both publicly and privately.
