Cricket West Indies says a charter flight is being arranged to bring the Senior Men’s Team home from India after airspace restrictions in the Gulf region complicated their departure, following the team’s exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

CWI says the team is safe and that their return remains the organisation’s highest priority.

In a media release on Thursday, CWI says it has been in constant contact with players, team management, and the ICC since the team’s last match against India.

On Thursday, a high-level call between the ICC and CWI confirmed that a charter flight was being arranged, with departure from India expected within 24 hours, pending final air traffic approvals.

CWI says every precaution is being taken to ensure the squad’s safe return to the Caribbean.

The statement from CWI was likely prompted after Head Coach Daren Sammy vented his frustration on X about the team’s holding situation in India and the lack of information to them. Though he did not specify whether the lack of information was attributed to the ICC or CWI. Sammy posted a few hours later on X that the team had been updated on their departure details.
