A new generation of investors is emerging across the Eastern Caribbean, as students gain real-world
financial skills through a regional investment competition designed to reshape how young people think
about money, securities markets, and opportunity.

The Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Commission is playing a key role in shaping that future
through its collaboration in the 3rd Annual Regional Schools Investment Competition, an initiative
spearheaded by the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange. Held between October and November 2025,
the competition brought together students from across the ECCU member states, exposing them to the
fundamentals of investing and the dynamics of the securities market.

Working alongside broker-dealers and the Exchange, the ECSRC contributed to the organization and
execution of the programme, serving on both the planning committee and judging panel. The Commission
also used the platform to reinforce its broader mandate, ensuring that the region’s financial markets
remain fair, efficient, transparent, and safe for investors, while expanding public understanding of
investment practices.

Speaking at the awards ceremony held at the National Skills Development Centre in Vieux Fort, Head of
Policy, Data Analysis and Regulatory Innovation at the ECSRC, Samantha Lewis, emphasized that the

initiative is part of a deliberate push to build financial literacy from a young age. She noted that while
many individuals are taught to save, there remains a critical gap in understanding how to invest,
something the Commission believes must start within the school system to create a more active and
informed market across the Eastern Caribbean.

At the school level, teachers played a pivotal role in translating complex financial concepts into practical
learning experiences. At Choiseul Secondary School, educators Stephanie Theophine Charles and Shirley
Ann James described the competition as both a teaching and learning journey, as they worked alongside
students to navigate investment strategies and market trends.

The educators explained that their prior experience as first runner-up in last year’s competition helped
shape a more refined approach this year, with a strong focus on analyzing market forces and making
strategic decisions. Their efforts extended beyond the classroom, with extra hours dedicated to reviewing
market news and studying company performance, an investment of time that ultimately paid off.
