Dennis Labels Chief Sec 'Deadbeat'
During a high-energy political meeting in Charlotteville, People’s National Movement (PNM) Tobago Council Leader Ancil Dennis delivered a scathing critique of the area’s current leadership, labeling the district’s representative—Chief Secretary Farley Augustine—a « deadbeat » for allegedly neglecting his constituents over the last four years.
Dennis argued that despite the Parlatuvier/L’Anse Fourmi/Speyside district being home to the Chief Secretary, it remains the « worst electoral district » in terms of development and representation. He characterized the administration’s performance as comparable to a father who fails to take care of his children.
The address highlighted a list of grievances regarding local infrastructure. Dennis pointed to the poor condition of the roads, specifically from Delaford into Speyside, and the lack of essential facilities. He noted that Charlotteville currently lacks a proper playing field, a community center, a reliable bus service, and adequate fishing or health facilities.
The PNM leader contended that several projects initiated under the previous administration had been abandoned. In urging residents to support the PNM candidate, Maxlon Roberts, Dennis outlined specific commitments should the party return to office. These pledges include restarting the construction of the community center within the first six months, repairing the ice machine and sewer system, and transforming the beachfront to boost tourism.
Additionally, Dennis addressed labor concerns, promising to transition workers from the « 10 days » program into permanent employment to ensure financial stability. He concluded by calling on the electorate to make a change, asserting that the district deserves better than the current « deadbeat » representation.
