As Ganesh Utsav celebrations continue across the country, the spiritual leader of the Swasti Vaachanam Organisation said this observance remains significant as an answer to the many ills around the world.
The celebration of the elephant-headed Lord Ganesha, known as the remover of obstacles and the god of beginnings, wisdom, and good fortune, is widely observed in the Hindu community in Trinidad and Tobago.
As devotees lined the streets just outside the Little Store in Curepe on Wednesday, the melodic rhythm of the tassa accompanied the celebration of Ganesh Utsav.
Spiritual Leader of the Swasti Vaachanam Organisation, Pundit Satyanan Gosine, said this observance is significant as the world grapples with various issues.
« Ganesh Utsav, or Bhagwan Ganesh, is the remover of all impediments and difficulties, hardships and problems. And the world is plagued with so much difficulties and hardships; hence, all over the world, right here in Trinidad, and by extension the world, people are celebrating with this great murti of Lord Ganesha. »
The murti was mounted on the back of a panel van, where prayers were conducted before the grand procession made its way to the organisation’s residence in Barataria, where it will remain until the end of festivities.
Pundit Gosine extended warm wishes for Ganesh Utsav, saying: « I want to congratulate everybody and wish the entire world peace, prosperity and happiness. Shubh Ganesh Utsav. »
Ganesh Utsav is celebrated by members of the Hindu community annually. This year’s celebration runs from August 26th to September 6th.
