The Panorama 2026 competition season officially began on Wednesday with the Eastern Region qualifying round for Single Pan.
The theme, « Legacy: Ours to Love, Ours to Cherish, » was highlighted by the appreciation shown through large audiences and loud cheers as the bands performed.
Vice-President of Pan Trinbago, Terry Bernard, explained that from the very first night, the attendance and support by spectators reflected the theme, with the feeling of a ‘Savannah party.’
« Listen, this instrument brings so much love and joy to us and we have to keep that spirit of joy, a spirit of happiness, a spirit of love and a spirit of togetherness. »
He also highlighted the noteworthy participation of young people.
« The instrument, so many young people – it’s such a joy to see them. It provides a space for them, it provides an opportunity for them to recreate, to learn music, to interact with each other, and at the end of the day, learn to compete fiercely and accept results. »
Defending champions, San Juan East Side Symphony Steel Orchestra, performed an energetic Duvone Stewart arrangement of Machel Montano’s « Jumbie. »
The energy and passion to reclaim the top spot were clearly demonstrated by 2024 Single Pan Champion and 2025 runner-up, Chord Masters Steel Orchestra, which performed the 1999 Machel Montano composition « Showdown, » arranged by Andre White.
Seven bands performed on Wednesday, with six more showcasing their talents on Thursday, as the Eastern Region competition continued before concluding on Friday evening.
