At a political meeting in Whim, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine laid out a series of high-impact promises aimed at securing the future of Tobago’s youth ahead of the 2026 THA elections. Positioning the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) as the champion of the next generation, Augustine vowed to implement direct financial and infrastructural support for students and cultural groups in the upcoming fiscal year.

The centerpiece of this election pledge is the creation of a new student food card program designed to alleviate the financial strain on families. Augustine promised that for the first time, Tobago students studying at universities in Trinidad will receive monthly food support. He framed this as a direct intervention to remove one of the biggest bills from parents’ shoulders, pledging that under his watch, no student will have to survive on « dry bread and water » while pursuing their degree.

In a simultaneous bid to energize the cultural electorate, the administration committed to delivering permanent homes for the island’s steelbands. Augustine announced that lands in Plymouth have already been approved for the Uptown Fascinators and vowed that the Steel Sensations orchestra is next in line for a similar allocation. He described these promises not just as infrastructure projects, but as a social contract to keep young people « positively and productively engaged » and away from negative vices.
