Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Jearlean John, today (5 February 2026) presented the Government of Trinidad and Tobago’s Revitalisation Blueprint to representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission headed by Ms. Anastasia Guscina, Deputy Chief, Caribbean Division I, Western Hemisphere.
The engagement outlined the Government’s approach to the country’s revitalisation and diversification strategy, anchored in infrastructure renewal, enhanced competitiveness, and the creation of an enabling environment for sustained economic growth. Discussions also focused on the proposed labour force, financial models to be used to attract investors and investment opportunities.
Minister John emphasised that “This is a deliberate move to raise our standards and expand our capabilities so that Trinidad and Tobago can compete effectively in the international marketplace. We are building a modern, skilled workforce supported by strong institutions, clear policy direction, and a stable investment environment.”
At peak rollout, the Revitalisation Plan is projected to generate up to 72,000 jobs, drawing heavily on Trinidad and Tobago’s skilled and semi-skilled local labour force. The programme is designed to maximise the use of domestic talent to drive implementation, while strengthening technical capacity
across key sectors.
In parallel, the Government intends to pursue strategic foreign partnerships to support knowledge transfer, advanced technologies, and international best practices. These partnerships will create new opportunities for learning, training, and skills upgrading, while positioning the workforce to operate at globally competitive standards.
The engagement with the IMF reinforces the Government’s international outreach, signalling a clear intent to stimulate economic growth and advance national development.
