Government Confirms Approval Of US Military Flights Through Local Airports

The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs has advised that approvals have been granted for United States military aircraft to transit Trinidad and Tobago’s airports in the coming weeks.

A release from the Ministry notes that the United States has advised that these movements are logistical in nature, facilitating supply replenishment and routine personnel rotations.

Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers says Trinidad and Tobago maintains close engagement with the US, and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has affirmed the government’s commitment to cooperation and collaboration in the pursuit of safety and security for Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region.

The Ministry reaffirms this country’s commitment to sustained cooperation with the United States in advancing regional safety, security, and stability.

Through this partnership, it notes that Trinidad and Tobago has benefited from joint military training exercises and enhanced surveillance capabilities that have contributed to the interdiction of millions of dollars’ worth of illegal narcotics.

The United States Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago further notes it has supported national development through educational initiatives, including school equipment donations and infrastructure enhancement projects.
