HEIGHTENED ACTIVITY AT PIPARO MUD VOLCANO SPARKS FEAR
décembre 24, 2025 6:32 pm
Recent reports indicate a significant surge in activity at the Piparo mud volcano, with current levels surpassing those observed in 2019. Witnesses have described mud bubbling and spewing several feet into the air, sparking immediate concern among the local community.
In response to reports from residents, the Disaster Management Unit of the Couva Tabaquite Talparo Regional Corporation has been mobilized to assess the situation. Additionally, experts from the University of the West Indies (UWI) are actively monitoring the site to evaluate the potential risks.
This uptick in geological activity brings renewed anxiety to the region, recalling the devastating major eruption of 1997. During that event, the volcano buried homes, vehicles, and livestock, forcing the evacuation of approximately 300 residents. Authorities continue to urge caution as monitoring intensifies.
