Child sexual abuse remains one of the most deeply troubling yet under-discussed issues affecting families and communities in Trinidad and Tobago, often concealed by stigma, silence, and fear. In this interview, leading public health psychiatrist Professor Sandra Reid sheds light on her inaugural professorial lecture, “Hidden in Plain Sight,” which brings urgent national attention to the realities of abuse and its long-term impact on survivors.

Drawing on her research and community-based work, she examines the social and cultural factors that allow abuse to persist, the critical link to mental health outcomes, and the importance of public awareness in driving change.
