Homeland Security Minister Warns Of Counterfeit Cash Circulating During Carnival
2 hours ago
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander is warning Carnival-goers and vendors to be on high alert for counterfeit money, as fake bills have begun circulating at events across the country.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Friday morning, he urged the public to carefully examine all cash, whether receiving change, making purchases, or conducting quick transactions in crowded spaces.
The Minister cautioned that Carnival’s high turnout and fast-paced environment create opportunities for criminals to slip counterfeit notes into circulation.
He stressed that vigilance from both patrons and vendors is crucial to preventing losses.
« We are seeing some false currencies floating around. So those who are purchasing and those who are getting change, we ask you to pay attention to the money. Examine it more closely and if you’re in doubt, do not accept. »
