« He who must lead, must take from the table last. »
In a fiery address to supporters, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has defended his administration’s record on financial management and infrastructure, revealing that the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) government has paid out over $215 million in gratuities since taking office.
Leading by Example Augustine, a former teacher, shared a personal anecdote to illustrate his commitment to prioritizing workers. He admitted that he is still owed gratuity from his time as a teacher, jokingly calling out the Secretary for Education but using the moment to highlight a principle of leadership.
« Secretary for Education, you still owe me gratuity, » Augustine quipped. « But he who must lead, must take from the table last. »
The Friendship Estate Breakthrough Turning to infrastructure, the Chief Secretary slammed the previous administration for leaving the Friendship Estate Road as nothing more than a « donkey years old » plan on paper, dating back to the era of Hochoy Charles.
« We came into office, we met a plan… and we had an old Cabinet note going back donkey years. No road, » Augustine stated. He boasted that his administration executed what could not be done in 21 years, successfully building the connector road to the new highway.
Infrastructure Dominance Augustine did not mince words when comparing his track record to the Opposition, claiming that his government has outpaced them in every metric of road construction.
« We have built more roads than they did in any four-year period, » he declared. « We built more roundabouts than they could ever build in the entirety of their term in office. »
