INDEPENDENCE PARADE CANCELLATION REQUIRES BROADER DISCUSSION
During a segment on the Tobago Updates morning show, Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, William Nurse, addressed the cancellation of the 2025 Independence Parade.
He suggested that before discussing the decision, it’s crucial to establish a fundamental understanding of what Independence Day truly signifies for Trnidad and Tobago. He emphasized that setting these “building blocks” is necessary to have a meaningful conversation on the matter.
Nurse also commented that the information surrounding the event’s cancellation could have been handled more effectively.
Closing his remarks, he advised against organizing street parades, suggesting that people could instead gather in public spaces to create their own celebratory atmosphere, whether through prayer or other activities.
