India’s High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit, has reinforced several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the bond between his country and T&T.
Speaking at the Divali Nagar on Tuesday night, Dr. Rajpurohit expressed deep appreciation for the National Council for Indian Culture’s efforts in preserving the rich culture and history of the Divali celebrations.
He also praised the initiatives of the NCIC for providing a dynamic platform for both local and foreign cultural artists.
« I am glad that the 38th annual Divali Nagar festival celebration is being celebrated under the inspiring theme of ‘Welfare of the World,’ highlighting unity, cultural preservation and the collective upliftment of the society. Through various cultural events and charitable initiatives, the Council has not just preserved our heritage but has also contributed to the wellbeing of the society, and it is the best example of how culture and community serve hand in hand, enabling the true spirit of Divali. »
The High Commissioner revealed that a new organisation has been developed to assist future events hosted by the NCIC.
« After the announcement of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, for the issuance of OCI, the Overseas Citizenship of India card, up to the sixth generation of the diaspora, we have organised a workshop in support of the Divali Nagar and NCIC last month where we received a very enthusiastic response from our communities. »
Building on the collaborative partnership over the past few months, Dr. Rajpurohit is urging citizens, particularly those of East Indian descent, to apply for their Indian citizenship. This follows the announcement by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, of the extension of the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card facility to the sixth generation of Indian diaspora families in Trinidad and Tobago, allowing them to live and work in India without restrictions.
« I once again ask the diaspora community to come forward in applying for the OCI card. Our team in the High Commission is at your disposal in facilitating you all in the submission of these applications. »
Scheduled from October 11th to 19th, the 38th Divali Nagar celebration is being held under the theme ‘Loka Sangraha’, meaning ‘Welfare of the World.’
