James Slams PNM $200B vs Nothing
Trevor James has launched a blistering attack on the People’s National Movement (PNM), accusing the party of systemic neglect and financial discrimination against Tobago over the last two decades. Speaking on a Tobago People’s Party (TPP) platform ahead of the Monday elections, James contrasted the massive infrastructure spending in Trinidad with the lack of investment in the sister isle.
James alleged that under 21 years of PNM governance, upwards of $200 billion had been spent on infrastructure in Trinidad through state agencies such as UDeCOTT and the National Gas Company (NGC). In stark contrast, he claimed Tobago received « nothing » comparable in development funding. He warned voters to be wary of sudden financial offers, describing them as « election money » from an administration he characterised as « lying, thieving, and Tobago-hating. »
Vision for Scarborough: Turning to the TPP’s development plans, James identified the port and the city as the economic « lifeline » for the area’s residents. He outlined a vision to create a new generation of successful local entrepreneurs, referencing legacy business families such as the Browns, Balfours, Hosfords, and Stewarts. James asserted that the TPP aims to replicate this success by developing the port to provide sustainable livelihoods for the community.
He concluded by cautioning the electorate that the PNM would say « no » to such empowering projects, urging Tobagonians to reject what he described as a legacy of underdevelopment.
