Trinidad and Tobago’s food import bill is currently at a high of $7.3 billion.

A concerned Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ravi Ratiram, says it puts the country under economic pressure by depleting foreign exchange reserves. It also exposes the population to global supply chain disruptions and price volatility, fuelling inflation.
