Tobago’s police force is cracking down on illicit alcohol sales. In a proactive move, senior officers and supervisors attended a seminar with experts from the Customs and Excise Division to better enforce the Liquor Licenses Act.
Superintendent Mark Joseph stated that the training was necessary due to an increase in public inquiries and enforcement operations. The goal is to equip officers with the knowledge to monitor compliance and conduct inspections. Violations can lead to significant penalties, including fines up to $10,000 TT and three years in prison, in line with recent legislative amendments.
This renewed focus signals that authorities are taking public safety seriously, aiming to curb unregulated sales linked to disorderly conduct and road safety issues. It’s a key step toward safer communities in Tobago.
