CARIFESTA BROWN’S BEACH [2ND SEPTEMBER 2025] – Papa Diable, Acrobat, Marie En Set, Kabwit and a host of Ti Djabs made a splash in Barbados as part of Saint Lucia’s CARIFESTA contingent, last week. The masqueraders were joined by dub poet Ras Isley at the popular Brown’s beach, where less than 200 years ago, slave ships would dock after their Atlantic crossing. The uniquely Saint Lucian masquerade traditions were part of the event SALTWATER TONGUES – WE CAME BY SEA, where other CARICOM contingents also honored the ancestors and noted the brutality of their first steps into the Caribbean.
