Describing the United States of America as Trinidad and Tobago’s largest trading partner, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Nicholas Morris says the Prime Minister’s trip to the United States is expected to bear much fruit for this country.
Minister Morris told the House of Representatives on Friday that bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States are at their peak.
« This prioritisation by the government of Trinidad and Tobago has resulted in Trinidad and Tobago-US relations being at the highest level since 1962. This was only achieved in nine months. Mr. Speaker, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America have enjoyed warm and friendly relations dating back to the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 31st, 1962. »
Minister Morris was highlighting Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s attendance at the Shield of the Americas Summit on March 7th.
« Bilateral collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and the US is strong and ongoing on a myriad of issues such as security, education, culture, youth affairs, energy, trade, technical assistance and the training of military personnel. »
The Minister noted that the Prime Minister had arranged bilateral talks with the leaders of the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Panama and El Salvador as well as with the host country.
« The Honourable Prime Minister will have one-on-one discussions with the United States President, Donald Trump, as well as senior officials in his administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, United States Trade Rep Jamieson Greer and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. »
The leaders of Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras and Paraguay will also be attending the summit.
