Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Khadijah Ameen, along with Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, Dominic Smith, have reaffirmed their commitment to reducing negative stigma, advancing youth development, and improving infrastructure within the Carapo community.

The Ministers made the pledge while attending an Easter Family Fun Day hosted in the area on Easter Monday.

Residents of Carapo, in collaboration with the Evergreen United Organisation, hosted the community event aimed at combating long-standing negative perceptions and highlighting positive initiatives within the area.

Speaking to TTT News, Minister Ameen said such an event highlighted the progress made in the area and underscored how far the community has come.

She praised the assistance from Minister Smith, noting that the Easter Family Fun Day represented more than just festivities.

« Today is important because there’s a lot of negative stigma attached to Carapo, and what the organisation is doing will help to put Carapo on the map for positive things. So I’m really happy about it, and I’m doubly happy because Dominic Smith worked with us for election, he was a candidate, and after election he never left us. So as a community, he has supported events to help the young people grow, get more organised, attend their meetings, assist in the community, assist in vulnerable cases. »

She said the event underscored the significant progress made under the current administration and reflected how far the community has advanced.

« I am a resident of Carapo. I have never left Carapo since I came to live here, and this is how I started as a Councillor in the trenches, and it wasn’t until Kamla Persad-Bissessar became Prime Minister that this area got lights and got the grounds fixed and drainage and all these things. So I know how far we have come as a community. »

Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, Dominic Smith, reiterated his dedication to youth development, addressing vulnerable cases, and supporting community-based initiatives.

« The kids are happy, the community is alive, and we want to continue doing this kind of work because this is the mandate of the government: to treat with the people to meet them where they are. And under the leadership of Kamla Persad-Bissessar, we are supported by her from the top, and we are happy to come now and contribute to the society and to have everyone benefit. »
