The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs joins the global community in observance of World Diabetes Day on November 14th. This year’s theme, « Diabetes and Well-being,” places focus on the importance of ensuring that individuals living with diabetes can lead healthy, fulfilling lives with equal opportunities for happiness and well-being. Given the high prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes which is preventable and controllable, people are encouraged to make healthy lifestyle changes and ensure adequate medical treatment. Some of the lifestyle changes include remaining physically active, maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding smoking and alcohol, making mental health a priority and losing weight if overweight. The Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs, through the various programmes, remains committed to improving access to healthcare services, education, and treatment for diabetes.
