A new multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art IVF and Fertility Centre has been opened in Aranguez, expanding fertility treatment options in Trinidad and Tobago amid growing concerns about rising infertility rates.

US$4 million has been invested in the new Trinidad and Tobago IVF and Fertility Centre, located at Icon Plaza in Aranguez.

Speaking at the official opening on Wednesday evening, the Centre’s manager, Dr. Catherine Minto-Bain, revealed that approximately one in six people in T&T is affected by infertility. She explained that the new facility offers a wide range of services in a confidential, safe, calm, and supportive environment.

« We’ve got this incredible facility that offers world-class treatment. Like you were saying, Toronto, London, Miami, New York – we have it here, and we’re better than a lot of those units. So it’s a huge problem. Aranguez is the perfect location for us, and we’re here for the T&T population, providing this state-of-the-art treatment that they need. But infertility is common. People are not alone, and so we do a lot of other things as well: fertility preservation for cancer patients, fertility checking, social egg freezing. »

The IVF and Fertility Centre has been operating in Trinidad and Tobago for more than two decades, with its first location established in Maraval.

Dr. Minto-Bain said the facility continues to record positive outcomes and is already attracting international clients.

« We’re already getting people from abroad of our positive pregnancy tests this week. Two were actually, one in Guyana, one in the USA. So we are getting people from abroad coming here because of what we offer, not just the state-of-the-art facility but amazing T&T compassion and care as well in the staff right here. »

Member of Parliament for Aranguez/St Joseph, Devesh Maharaj, said the new IVF and Fertility Centre has the potential to boost medical tourism and serve as a valuable source of revenue for the country.

« If this is the most modern facility in the Caribbean, and this is a service that is so much in demand, one can just imagine what is going to happen. A lot of people will be flocking from other countries to the Caribbean, to here, to the country, and of course, to Aranguez/St. Joseph. It’s a potential source of foreign exchange, local and foreign exchange. »

Mr. Maharaj added that the government continues to support new, innovative and enterprising business ventures.
