Priority Bus Route Set For Stricter Monitoring Under New Initiative
4 hours ago
There’s a new push for traffic regulation on the Priority Bus Route.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has rolled out a dedicated enforcement unit focused on tightening regulation and improving traffic management along the Priority Bus Route. The new initiative is designed to boost oversight, enhance commuter safety, and ensure a smoother, more reliable flow of public transportation throughout the corridor.
The Traffic Warden Priority Bus Route Compliance Unit is a specialised team established to enhance monitoring and enforcement along the Priority Bus Route.
Speaking at the launch in Port of Spain, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Eli Zakour announced that the unit will begin full operations on Monday, December 15th, 2025.
He said the new unit forms part of the Ministry’s strategy to ensure consistent enforcement and greater operational efficiency. He noted that dedicated, on-the-ground monitoring at key points along the route will help reduce congestion, improve compliance, and support more reliable transit services.
The Compliance Unit will work daily with enforcement partners to ensure that only authorised vehicles access the Priority Bus Route, reinforce adherence to traffic regulations, and strengthen overall traffic management.
The initiative is one element of the Ministry’s broader programme to modernise and improve the national transportation system.
