Public Road Safety Officer Says Higher Fines Aim To Deter Lawbreaking
5 hours ago
« The increase in traffic fines is a necessary measure put in place by the government to deter motorists from breaking the law. »
This is according to TTPS Public Road Safety Officer Brent Batson, who continues to remind the public that road safety remains a national priority.
Mr. Batson said that enforcing and increasing traffic fines help deter motorists from operating their vehicles unlawfully on public roads.
« The long lines for, in some cases, inspection right and we’re not just talking about licensing, we talking about inspection stations. If you pass by, you see carS wrapping round some of these inspection stations. The inspection law is not new, what is new is the doubling of the fines so did it take a doubling of the fine and the threat of this increased fine for you to go and get the vehicle inspected? »
Mr. Batson also stated that another measure of law enforcement is to create behavioural change on the part of road users.
« The other issue continues to be no seatbelts, not wearing seatbelts, breaches of traffic signs, for example, no parking. »
He says that by promoting adherence to traffic rules, authorities hope to instil safer driving habits, reduce accidents, and foster a culture of responsibility and respect on the nation’s roads.
