Rediscover Christmas: Cocoa Panyol Museum Brings Past And Present Together

The creator of the museum, Mr. Clive Teemal, says it is a tremendous asset for the community, providing a space where families can come together and enjoy quality time with their children.
« When I started this project in 2016 under the theme ‘Being A Child Again This Christmas,’ I took into 2017, and the theme was ‘Tribute To The Elders’ and that is when I started to link Christmas traditions from the past with things people are doing now, and when I put together items – initially I called them items, not artefacts – I saw the reaction of people, and that’s how I realised this geographical area needed a permanent museum. »
Mr. Teemal’s passion for craftwork is evident in the many sculptures he has created, each reflecting his skill and creativity. From traditional designs to innovative contemporary pieces, his work showcases not only crafting mastery but also a deep appreciation for the story of Christmas and local materials that inspire him.
« Everything here is handmade, handcrafted, and hand-painted by me. It actually took one whole year to do all of these things. There are some additional pieces that weren’t displayed this year, but it was one full year to make all of them. »
Traditional crèche figures are playfully mixed with beloved characters from children’s cartoons, including the Smurfs, Donald Duck, and other modern favourites. Mr. Teemal explains that this blend fits perfectly with the theme, “Being A Child Again This Christmas,” creating a festive experience that delights both adults and children alike.
