US Senator Bernie Sanders has issued a fierce condemnation of President Donald Trump’s recent military initiative regarding Venezuela, labeling the action a blatant display of contempt for the US Constitution and the rule of law. Sanders emphasized that the President of the United States does not possess the unilateral right to take the nation into war, even when opposing a controversial figure like Nicolas Maduro.

Responding to President Trump’s assertion of authority to « run Venezuela, » Sanders argued that the United States has no such right. He has called upon Congress to immediately pass a War Powers Resolution to cease what he describes as an illegal military operation and to reassert its constitutional responsibilities.

Sanders warned that this violation of international law creates a dangerous precedent, potentially emboldening other nations to attack sovereign countries for resources or regime change. He drew a direct parallel between this logic and the justifications used by Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine. Furthermore, Sanders accused the administration of reviving the Monroe Doctrine to dominate the hemisphere and seize control of Venezuela’s oil reserves—the largest in the world. He characterized the move as « rank imperialism » that recalls a dark history of US intervention in Latin America.
