The Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation is hoping that the National Programme for the Upkeep of Public Spaces will continue.
Speaking exclusively to TTT News, Chairman Kenwyn Phillip said the programme has been able to assist the corporation tremendously.
« I must congratulate the Prime Minister on that vision. I must congratulate the Minister of Local Government because, for the first time in history, since I came here, the first time we have all our recreation grounds maintained simultaneously. »
Mr. Phillip explained that the programme has provided the much-needed human resources that the Corporation requires.
« I would really really keep lobbying with the Minister to expand the programme so that the Corporation, because we are understaffed. We are the largest region and have a little over 600 workers, but our region needs over 1,000 workers to ensure we have a proper cycle for maintenance of these roads. »
The 13-week pilot programme began in December 2025 and is expected to end on 15 March 2026.
