The Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association is expressing concern over an increase in copper theft in Trinidad and Tobago.

It is once again calling for stricter enforcement of the scrap metal laws.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association, Allan Ferguson, says his association has received numerous reports of copper theft in the past few months. The most recent was in Tobago, where the operations of a major business were interrupted.

Mr. Ferguson is calling on the authorities to address this matter before the situation worsens.

He is also urging scrap metal dealers and collectors to comply with the laws.

In 2022, a ban was placed on the scrap metal industry following an increase in theft across the country.

Mr. Ferguson is hoping that the matter will be addressed soon.
