The current State of Emergency was passed in the Lower House on Friday and will run for three months.
In his debate, the Attorney General says the regulations about online conduct are necessary.
We have more in this report.
The regulations that govern and approve the State of Emergency have been passed in the Lower House, and the current SOE will run retroactively from March 3, 2026, for three months.
Speaking in the Lower House, Attorney General John Jeremie said his government did not create any new legal regulations or clauses and wondered why the Opposition was against what they contained.
AG Jeremie told the House that while he can look at past legislation and see what should be updated, it pains him to understand why the Opposition is unwilling to change with evolving times.
The AG also explained why it was necessary to include certain clauses that regulate how people act online.
He noted that certain actions can put this country at risk to international interests, so someone had to step in and put an end to it.
He noted that this is unacceptable behaviour and that as long as he has life, he will not allow it to be left unpunished in the public domain.
