Dozens of children, the elderly, and the needy in society are benefiting from the hampers being distributed by TTT Limited’s ‘The Gathering’.
The Gathering, a Sweet 100.1FM initiative, allows people to donate food, toys, and products to be distributed to the needy in Trinidad and Tobago in time for Christmas.
Senior Producer and Presenter at Sweet 100.1FM, Ria Roopchandsingh, said distributing the gifts is her favourite thing to do.
« We have quite a few organisations that benefit, a lot of homes, schools, different things like that. Approximately maybe 50 if you added the organisations, some homes, some individuals as well, because we try to maximise how we distribute the hampers. »
A representative from Fair Haven Home for the Elderly, Hugh Williams, expressed the organisation’s gratitude for the donation.
« It drops the cost of the operations. The kind of money you have to spend to run a home, that will help offset some of the costs, for at least this month. »
Centre Manager for the Autistic Society of Trinidad and Tobago, Amoy Boodoo, said the society provides support for both the parents and children of the organisation.
« The past couple of years we have been benefitting from this initiative, and it’s so awesome. I really want to encourage the families and all the kids that participated in donating to this initiative. The foodstuff do go a long way, and, of course, the presents make the children very happy when they receive them. »
Another children’s home that benefits from the Gathering is Christ Child Convalescent Home in Diego Martin. The Manager of the home, Sister Sarah Waterman, applauded the initiative.
« Every year, Sweet 100 has their Gathering initiative, and Christ Child Convalescence Home is one of those homes that they give to each and every year to assist the home with providing for the children. »
