Investigations are continuing into the tragic death of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie, who was fatally injured during a jet ski incident at Pigeon Point earlier this month.
Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk of the Tobago Division of the T&T Police Service gave an update on the police inquiries.
« Before the end of this week we will approach the DPP, and the reason being, we are comfortable with where we are in terms of the statements that we obtained, that we can approach the DPP relative to seeking advice as to if there is anything further that we can do or anything additionally. We will ask for that advice. »
Senior Superintendent Kirk described the matter as « unique » and stressed the need for the police to thoroughly investigate the matter before moving on to the next stage.
« You have to explore all the options available because the main purpose of the police is to ascertain whether there is criminal liability in the act which occurred, right? You have to look at that, in spite of what it looks as on the surface. We have to make sure that when we do our investigation, we do it in accordance with the SOPs and the guidelines for us as police officers who treat with these matters on a daily basis. »
Mr. Kirk appealed to members of the public for patience, assuring that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service remains committed to a careful and transparent process aimed at establishing whether any criminal liability exists in Angelica’s death.
