TPP Denies Contractor Blacklisting
The Tobago People’s Party (TPP) has categorically refuted allegations of contractor blacklisting and non-payment, labelling the claims as « false and misleading ». Speaking on a TPP platform ahead of the upcoming Monday elections, Secretary Petal-Ann Roberts addressed the accusations made by Minority Councillor Petal Daniel-Benoit during the 46th sitting of the Assembly.
Roberts challenged the narrative that the administration had failed to honour its financial obligations, presenting detailed records of payments made over the last three fiscal years. According to the Secretary, the TPP administration has paid a total of $75 million to contractors for road resurfacing and infrastructure works, excluding a separate $18 million settlement to Nasvic.
Key Financial Disclosures:
Fiscal 2023: Over $42 million was paid to three major contractors, including Parks International Limited and Kai Engineering.
Fiscal 2024: A combined total of $22.96 million was issued to eight contractors, including Warner’s Construction, Dane Phillip, and Seebros Construction.
Fiscal 2025: Payments amounting to $9.67 million were made to three contractors for emergency rehabilitation works.
The Secretary emphasised that the TPP does not practice blacklisting but instead verifies all works through forensic audits before releasing funds. Roberts further confirmed that a policy decision has already been made for Fiscal 2026 to continue phased payments, reinforcing the party’s commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of public resources.
Roberts urged the electorate to reject the opposition’s « misleading statements » and judge the administration on its verified track record of financial management.
