TPP RALLIES SCARBOROUGH January 12th Set for Election Showdown; Major Infrastructure Overhaul Annou
2 hours ago
The political temperature in Tobago reached a boiling point last night as the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) descended on Scarborough/Mount Grace. In a fiery address, TPP Area Representative and Secretary of Infrastructure, Trevor James, confirmed January 12th as the date the party intends to « crush the Balisier » and cement its dominance in the island’s administration.
Addressing a jubilant crowd, James marked the four-year anniversary of the current administration by outlining a bold vision for the next term, centered on the philosophy that « Tobago is We. » The meeting served as both a campaign launchpad and a defense of the party’s track record against what James described as the « weaponization » of state agencies by the Central Government.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
🏗️ Major Infrastructure & « The Big Jump » Pushing back against critics focused on potholes, James argued that true development requires a « 50-year cycle » of thinking rather than short-term fixes. He announced several massive projects intended to modernize the island’s infrastructure:
Sangster’s Hill Overpass: A new road network incorporating an overpass to alleviate Scarborough’s traffic congestion.
Goldsborough Motor Vehicle Authority: A centralized licensing office to eliminate the need for Class 5 and 7 drivers to travel to Trinidad.
Scarborough Redevelopment: James announced they are on the verge of signing the Letter of Award for this transformation project, targeting completion by the end of 2025.
Calder Hall Pavilion: A long-overdue facility for the Eric Hubbell Playing Field.
🔥 WASA & The « Weaponization » of Agencies James did not mince words regarding the state of the island’s roads. He accused the previous administration and the current Central Government of stripping the THA of its ability to fix road damage caused by WASA. « Today, WASA is the major culprit for all the holes that you see, » James declared, claiming the authority has refused to implement pipeline replacement projects in Tobago while doing so in Trinidad.
✊ Autonomy & « Tobago is We » The core message of the night was self-reliance. James slammed the PNM’s historical approach to Tobago, citing the limitations placed on the island’s marine boundaries and the location of the ANR Robinson airport as « willful shortsightedness » designed to stifle growth. He urged voters to reject Trinidad-based parties, stating, « Nobody ain’t coming to fix nothing for you. »
The Road to Jan 12 With the election date set, the TPP is banking on a platform of indigenous autonomy and large-scale development. As James closed his speech to the sound of reggae and cheering crowds, the message was clear: The TPP is ready to « jump into the future » and is asking Scarborough to take that leap with them.
