TPP Unveils Governance Transition Strategy

With the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections set for this Monday, January 12, 2026, the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) has clarified its roadmap for governance. Addressing supporters at a recent TPP meeting, Faith Brehnor detailed the administration’s strategic approach to implementing the Constitutional Amendment Act, positioning the party to lead a new era of autonomy for the island.
Brehnor outlined a three-part transition plan designed to transform the current assembly into a robust « Tobago Island Government. » The first step involves establishing a Division of Legal Affairs. Brehnor explained that this division would be essential for translating the administration’s political vision into precise legal terminology, ensuring that the new governance structures are legally sound and free from ambiguity.
The second phase focuses on the creation of a Transitional Committee. Brehnor noted that Tobagonians are venturing into uncharted territory, having never previously drafted their own laws or managed foreign investment regulations. This committee will guide the administration and the public through the necessary psychological and operational shifts, managing the « nitty-gritty » of moving from the current THA model to a more autonomous system.
Finally, the plan calls for a Division of Government Affairs. This body will define the institutional arrangements, roles, and administrative machinery required for the new government. Brehnor emphasized that this division would ensure the new administration is fully operational and capable of executing its duties from day one, without any lapses in governance.
As the election approaches, this structured approach highlights the TPP’s focus on readiness and institutional stability.
