TPP Vows To Build On Historic THA Victory, Focus On Autonomy

The Tobago People’s Party says it is moving swiftly to build on Monday’s historic THA election victory, pledging policies that will benefit all Tobagonians.
That commitment was outlined by the TPP’s Chair, Ann Natasha Second, in an interview with TTT News on Tuesday evening.
She said that autonomy for Tobago is a key priority the party intends to advance.
« That is one of the key pillars in our blueprint where we want to look at Constitutional autonomy. So we are hoping that the power acquisition that we clearly have been able to attain through the election will lead us to a place where we have a stronger attempt and a stronger argument to actually acquire various forms of autonomy and to truly be liberated at every sector of the economy. »
Addressing reports of a slightly lower voter turnout than in 2021, Ms. Second said the Tobago People’s Party is closely examining the data to better understand voter behaviour, with a view to identifying why some voters stayed away and how participation can be strengthened.
« We have a number of different reasons why persons may not vote. Some persons do not vote based on religion. Some persons do not vote based on their apathy or their sense of disinterest in a particular process. Our strategy involved heavily communicating with the people and educating people. So we would want to analyse those numbers, and we would want to go very early towards the population and gather more data to find out what will be possible reasons etcetera and to ensure that persons understand that they are fully well invited and appreciated and welcome to participate in our processes going forward because we want larger voter turnouts because it demonstrates greater participation and an understanding of the importance of democracy and your individual voice. »
