The Tunapuna Municipal Police traded in sirens for Christmas cheer this weekend as they hosted their annual ‘Jingle Bells and Blue Lights’ children’s Christmas treat and charity drive.

Acting Sergeant Keda Pascall of the Tunapuna Municipal Police said the event brought together hundreds of children from across the Tunapuna/Piarco region for a day of gifts, games and goodwill.

« We have homes from within our region, such as the Cyril Ross Children’s Home as well as Joshua Home for Boys and others. Today, we are enjoying the company of the children as part of our community outreach initiative. »

But the celebrations didn’t stop at toys and treats. Police officers also pooled their own resources to donate non-perishable food items, assembling dozens of hampers for families in need.

Acting Sergeant Pascall said it’s a softer side of policing that is just as important as enforcement, especially during the holiday season.

« While we combat crime, we also serve communities and this is the gentle side of policing that we are sharing here with you today. We have Santa Claus, we have exquisite gifts, endless treats, fun, laughter, and an enjoyable time for the Christmas season. »

The event also marked the upcoming launch of the new social media page by the Municipal Police, which is part of a broader effort to strengthen community engagement and highlight positive policing initiatives.
